A Sea Room Nautical Series.

Frederick Marryat

One of our few nautical authors who wrote about the Napoleonic sea wars but was not writing historical fiction: he sailed with Nelson.  Marryat may have written about the same historic events that contemporary authors write about, but his authenticity of details commands our attention. Marryat's books are never dated in their adventures though the language may remind you how authentic POB managed to get the dialog in his series.

[B00667] Percival Keene by Frederick Marryat,

His novels defined the genre and were admired by literary luminaries as diverse as Conrad, Woolf, and Hemingway. Peter Simple, the story of a young naif in Nelson's navy, is Marryat's signature work. Marked by memorable characters, a comic edge, and the kind of unerring detail that comes only from first-hand experience, this is a true masterpiece of the Golden Age of Sail. Frederick Marryat (1792-1848) actually lived the life of a sailor and fighting captain in the Royal Navy. Such was the acclaim upon publication of Peter Simple that he gave up his commission to become a full-time writer. P, Book Number B00667. List price $15.00, your price $12.75 Go to top.
